DODO is commonly eaten as a vegetable in form of sauce or as a side dish. Today, we discover that besides that, it can be consumed in form of a juice. Moses Ssenoga, a naturopathic doctor at Mukago herbal sanitarium in Mbuya, recommends dodo for its vitamin content.
Ssenoga explains that the vitamins in dodo are ideal for people suffering from vitamin deficiency and also helps restore blood in anaemic people. To benefit from the nutritional values of dodo, Ssenoga recommends steaming it as opposed to frying.
Ssenoga says that dodo juice is a herbal remedy for yeast infections like candida. The juice is also used as a detoxifier. Below he takes us through the procedure.
Ingredients
Green dodo leaves
One litre of water
5-6 cloves of garlic, crushed
1 crushed onion crushed
3 lemons
2 teaspoons of salt
Procedure
Wash the dodo using clean water and set aside. Pour the one litre of water in a bowl. Add the crushed garlic and onions. Squeeze the lemons and add the juice to the water, then add salt.
Use the mixture of water as a disinfectant to wash the dodo again.
Drain and put the dodo in a mortar and pound to make a paste. Alternatively, use a blender to crush it.
Sieve to get the juice extract. Dilute the juice with water equivalent to half the amount of juice. Drink 300ml of the juice once a day.
