We also thank him for the many social services in West Nile. However, we are getting upset because the university has failed to take off. When the task force was set up in June last year, the people of West Nile expected that the existing structures of Muni NTC, Arua Nursing School, former Court Hall and Pakwach UCC would be used to kick-start the nniversity.

However, the technical team in the Ministry of Education deliberately decided to set tough conditions that the existing structures in these institutions should not be used to start the university.

The people of West Nile thought that starting this university next academic year would redeem them from backwardness and put them at par with other regions. It would also save them the hassle of travelling long distances in pursuit of university education outside Gulu.

All over the world, even in developing countries like Uganda, existing institutions have been upgraded to university level from just tertiary institution producing dipomas and certificates. Why is it that the officials in the ministry have created such difficult conditions to start this university?

Busitema University started from an agricultural college while Gulu University started from NARO Agricultural Centre. Why can't the same be done for the new university?

The heads of the identified institutions all accepted to host West Nile University until it gets its own infrastucture. We would like to inform the President that there are some bad apples in the Ministry of Education who do not wish the people of West Nile well.
