THE average Kampala elite will struggle to show that he has a clue about anything under the sun. However, from what happened at Alleygators Bowling Alley last Sunday during the corporate league bowling competition, some will consider excluding bowling among their specialties. Forget that the sport can be played excellently by a six-year-old, as would a 70-year-old.

It is just that some players from the 29 corporate companies that competed on the day showed such ineptitude; you felt they should not stand with in a radius of 100 meters from the alley — such ineptness was last shown during last month’s swimming competition at Hotel Africana.

Vision Group’s team: Paul Busharizi, Patrick Ogwang, Gloria Mukiibi and Olanya Columbus, put up a spirited show, but the lack of practice showed; they could only go thus far.

Time to tally the points and Zain & Infocom had dislodged Stanbic Bank, previously the indomitable winners. The telecom also produced the best female and male bowler in Patrick Mulokwa and Aidah Nakanwagi. NSSF were first runners-up, followed by Coca-Cola.

Meanwhile, corporate pool was also underway at the same venue. Would-be winner Uganda Breweries was disqualified in the female category for allegedly using a mercenary, who is a professional pool league player, which is not allowed at the corporate league. Runners-up Tullow Oil were then awarded top honours. The men’s category was won by Centenary Bank, Warid Telecom and Housing Finance Bank.

There was, however, laughter as the DJ, played Omulangira Ssuna’s hit, Gambler at the time. Everyone baptised the pool winners gamblers.
