YOU probably heard last week that Stamina sensation Eddie Kenzo was sick. Which is plausible, seeing as he has over the last two weeks had a busy schedule performing at NRM campaign rallies and his Stamina album launch shows.

But then again, sick Kenzo last Thursday was the night’s select for Club Silk’s Unplugged, where artistes do live performances with a band and no miming off their recordings.

Poor dude had to brave the malaria and show-up for his fans. Good enough though, he still pulled it off. But he looked sick.

In fact, a few minutes after he started singing, he pulled a stool, apologised saying he was suffering from malaria; then launched into his thing seated. The fans, who filled the club to the brims, understood. They showed him lots of love.

Together with a number of musicians who included Jose Chameleone, Iryn Namubiru; Ragga Dee; Aziz Azion; Jamal; Professor Big Eye and Showcase, Kenzo proved he was a big time musician.

He took the crowd through a number of his songs. But fans were interested in one song, Stamina. Whenever he ended one song to begin another, they shouted: Stamina. Then he gave it to them. He actually sang it thrice.

Adding to the spectacle was his Stamina king dancer Ronie Julian, whose dancing antics got excited female fans onto the dance floor to pull it off like him.

Kenzo managed to accomplish his performance with a string of impressive acts and great performance. Sonia Band, which backed him up, contributed much to this success. The drum fills and solos that were highlighted were a force to reckon with.

This was Kenzo’s first time at Unplugged, but it was worth it. No wonder when he finished after about three hours, he was rewarded with a standing ovation.

It was a great night with great performances, and the fans were left wanting more.
