AKBAR Baig hit a half century as Tornado surrendered this year’s Uganda Cricket league title with grace, by beating champions-elect Premier by 77 runs at Lugogo on Sunday.
Premier are now at an unassailable 65 points in the Premier Division, after Wanderers lost their game against Tornado B and Tornado failed to get any other chance of over hauling the point score.
In a match whose overs were revised to 44.4, defending champions Tornado were propelled by Baig, who hit 60 runs with Grace Mutagubya adding 33 to set a target of 177 runs.
Premier went into the match needing just a point to be declared champions. And although they did not get it, they denied Tornado a bonus point which was enough for them to pop the champagne, with one more game to go- a contest against Rounders.
