GRACE Nakafeero has been longing to meet singer Eddie Kenzo of the Stamina fame. Last week, she had a chance to hang out with the artiste and toldPidson Kareire what meeting her favourite local artiste was like.

Occupation: Businesswoman in Kasubi, Kampala.
Favourite music: Afrobeat and Lingala.

Why were you eager to meet Eddie Kenzo?
I have always felt the urge to meet him so that I can cement my love for his songs. After watching his videos and seeing him on stage, I felt the urge to shake his hand, but most of the time I could not get a chance.

Well, Blitz just answered your prayers. Do you feel better now? Honestly, I feel very satisfied. I can now boast of having met him whenever his videos are playing. By the way, there are very few lucky fans who have been with him.

Sharing some close moments with celebrities is usually hard, but I just did, and it is all thanks to Blitz.

Was the meeting worth your effort?
Why not? I think I was very lucky since I even found him with his dancer, Ronie Julian. Besides, Kenzo gave me a lovely reception; he was sick but tried his best to entertain me.

Okay, that sounds like you want to meet him again, huh?
Of course. I feel like being with him at all his shows. Whenever his songs are played, I feel the urge to see him.
That sounds like a woman in love?
Hahaha, it is not like that. It is just a woman who loves his music.

What exactly do you like about Kenzo? His music. If it were not for the music, I would not even know him. Also, the way he carries himself around is impressive.

Do you think he has the stamina that he sings about?
Yes, of course. To me, that stamina is care because in the song, he assures his lover that he was brought up in a peasant family and he has stamina (care).

But some people think Stamina alludes to sexual prowess…
Well, for me I think he is singing about care.

Anything you have learnt from his songs?
Yes, his song Lonely teaches lots of love lessons. But even Stamina is wonderful though its melody surpasses the message. Stamina teaches gold diggers that it is only care (stamina) that matters in a relationship.

Did you discuss anything in particular?
Since he was sick, we did not talk much as I realised I was straining him. However, he asked me why I like his music and I told him that the melody and message are inspiring.

What will you remember about this interaction with Kenzo?
This was my first time to be in Club Silk, where he took me to attend his Unplugged music show. I was right at the front watching him and I liked it whenever he moved close to dance with me while singing. That will stay on my mind forever.
