Blick inspires Power to a crucial 2-1 series lead over Falcons

BERNICE Nkunda breathed a huge sigh after watching his team defeat the Falcons 78-69 in Game 3 of their best-of-five FUBA playoff semifinals to take a 2-1 series lead. This, though, was not a sigh of relief but frustration.

BERNICE Nkunda breathed a huge sigh after watching his team defeat the Falcons 78-69 in Game 3 of their best-of-five FUBA playoff semifinals to take a 2-1 series lead. This, though, was not a sigh of relief but frustration.
“I’m tired,†said the Power coach. “Tired of shouting the same instructions on what we talked about since Friday practice.â€
Nkunda was not happy with his players’ failure to execute the small details. “They were not doing the little things like boxing out, showing concentration and reaction,†explained the coach.
Thankfully for Nkunda, Power are a tenacious team and can overturn a deficit faster than any other team. Unsurprisingly, they overcame a 10-point deficit mid-way the third period before running away from their hard-fighting opponents mid-way through the final quarter.
Power’s inspiration came from Norman Blick and Isaac Luggudde. The latter went on a scoring binge after coming on late in the third quarter and would end with 15 points.
But it was Blick who made the more telling contribution after taking over the game in the third quarter with Power struggling to close out Falcons’ lead.
Having struggled in the first half, Blick took matters into his own hands, like he has done so many times before. The versatile star began attacking the basket, drawing successive fouls and consequent trips to the line. As result all his six free throws came in the fourth period when both teams were in trouble and trading back-to-back free throws.
Falcons though promised to bounce back in Game 4 on Friday. “We are not worried at all with the loss,†said Richard Omondi.
“We will come back strong in the next game.â€
