DEFENDING champions Germany and Switzerland became the first teams to jet in for the fourth edition of Sitball World Cup that gets underway at Lugogo today.

Hosts Uganda will field three teams in the one week championship that will officially be opened by the Nabagereka of Buganda Sylvia Nagginda tomorrow.

Other countries that were still expected by press time were Austria, DR Congo, Burundi, Kenya and Tanzania.
The Ugandan teams have been in a two-month residential training at Lugogo in preparation for the event.

Uganda finished 4th in the third edition of the event in Kigali, Rwanda in 2008.

But team captain Musa Kajubi promised better results this time.

“After two months training, we are in very good shape,” Kajubi remarked yesterday.

This is the moment. I am happy we have enough experience in the team,” he added.

Team Uganda has J. Mawerere, A. Mukasa, B. Mutyaba, P. Bagala, H. Kamoga and J. Masereka. Others are G. Byarugaba, E. Kizito and W. Mayanja.

The women’s side, led by A. Zawadde, has P. Aanyu, S. Nabatanzi, I. Namigo, S. Namubiru, R. Nansereko, B. Nabanoba, P. Apio, S. Mayanja and L. Nanono.
