POLICE in Tororo are holding a 34-year-old man accused of tearing up a campaign poster of President Yoweri Museveni.

George Mawere, the district Police officer in charge polical and election offences, said Moses Angwech of Awuyo viliage in Iyolwa sub-county would be charged with defacing public notices and posters.

“His case file is before the resident state attorney for sanctioning,” according to Mawerere.
An eyewitness in Awuyo Zone told the Police that the poster had been pasted on a tree trunk when Angwech attacked it.

“As if possessed by a demon, Angwech reached out for the poster and peelled it off the tree, tearing it into pieces,” said William Ochwo, who later confronted the suspect.

Police were told that on sensing danger, the suspect attempted to escape, but residents arrested him.

He was led off to Iyolwa Police post, along with the pieces of the poster he reportedly tore.

Angwech was briefly detained at the Police cells before being transferred to Tororo central Police station.

Mawerere has since warned the Tororo public against engaging in similar acts, as they risk prosecution.
