THE Immaculate Heart of Mary Lima Catholic Parish in Koboko district had its first parish priest installed on Saturday. Lima was elevated to a parish in July. It had been a sub-parish under the Koboko Catholic Parish.
Fr. William Abukua was appointed the first parish priest of the church during the ordination of Fr. Godfrey Maliamungu on July 3 at the Koboko Catholic Parish.
The installation ceremony was presided over by the Vicar General of Arua Diocese, Monsignor Fr. Castor Adati. He appealed to the Christians to support Abukua and use the new parish to foster unity and to ensure its growth. “We expect you (Abukua) and the Christians to make Lima a model parish in the diocese,†Adati said.
Addressing the congregation, Abukua extended his gratitude to the Bishop of Arua Diocese, Sabino Odoki, for having the trust and confidence in him to serve the church.
He vowed to adhere to the doctrine of the Catholic faith.
“Our new parish shall progress with your cooperation and commitment. Let us work together,†Abukua told the Christians.
The congregation applauded when a delegation from Kampala donated new clerical uniforms and an assortment of gifts, and pledged to donate a motorcycle to the new parish priest.
Mzee Martino Aga, an elder in the area, donated a bull for the installation ceremony. Other Christians donated gifts that included goats, chickens, money and foodstuffs.
The Koboko district LC5 chairman, William Dada, promised to mobilise the residents to support the parish.
Thousands of Christians and guests who turned up for the occasion were treated to performances by the members of St. Kizito, the Catholic Women Association and the Lima Social Club.
