THE Uganda Cancer Institute at Mulago Hospital has received a modern infusion pump worth sh6m to help administer chemotherapy to patients under intensive care.
The pump, which was donated by Global Trust Bank, is the fifth in the institute, which attends to hundreds of patients daily. Dr. Victoria Walusansa, the deputy director of the institute, said the donation was a relief to patients who receive chemotherapy manually.
Walusansa said the institute needed about 35 infusion pumps. On average, she added, the pump works on one patient every four hours and can be used for three years, if well maintained.
The Global Trust Bank acting managing director, Charles Ajaegbu, said the institute makes significant efforts in cancer treatment but is constrained by lack of funds and the high cost of cancer treatment.
