EDITOR: The American embassy in Kampala charges $140 (sh315,000) as visa application fees. The visa business is transacted two days a week.

Assuming everyday a minimum of 50 applications are received, the embassy bags sh15,750,000 as a day’s revenue!

But out of the 50, only 15 or less could be issued with visas! When a visa is not granted, the money is not refunded! I think it is very unfair and should be embarrassing for a country like America to charge $140 from a Ugandan who has not qualified for the visa.

The ideal situation should have been that one pays $40 for paperwork and interview and then pay $100 upon confirmation of visa issuance. But the US does not look it that way.

When one does not qualify for a visa one must also lose $140! Is it a caution against trying to travel to America?
