Children in Uganda are abused in very many ways

They seem to have no right to express opinions and freedom of thoughts in matters affecting them. Young girls are forced into early marriages just because their parents want easy money while others are forced to become street children because of mistreatments.

As we celebrate the “Convention on the Rights of Children, let us remember Morris Mohasa who sang Kaleke Kasome. He effectively passed on his message in the song.

I have heard of people who have been rewarded by President Museveni for winning medals and scoring goals in football. I think Mohasa deserves a very big reward for his song. It is a song about a girl-child who was raped at a tender age.

Let us respect the dignity and worth of every child because we too were children at one time, regardless of race, colour, gender, language, religion or wealth. Rights and freedoms apply to every child. Children are like wet cement. Whatever falls on them makes an impression.
