COLD weather gives one an opportunity to display their collection of cute and stylish sweaters. But today, you no longer have to wait for cold weather, as knits have acquired the status of stylish fashionable clothing.

Brenda Maraka, a fashion designer in Kampala, says designer knits are an accessory and are becoming a big trend on our market today, the reason it is common to see someone wearing one in warm weather.

The light types come in handy here and also accentuate one’s look when well-matched with the rest of the attire.
Maraka says they are styled differently, and their knitting pattern is what tells them apart.

“We have cardigans, pullovers, sweatshirts, jersey sweaters, name it — all in different thicknesses,” Maraka says, adding that lighter ones are best for the average warm day while thick ones help in cold weather.

People who work in offices that have cold air conditioning are some of those who best utilise sweaters during warm seasons.

“Besides, they will liven up that boring white turtle neck into something more exciting,” she says.
Some sweaters are only meant to be worn over button-down dresses and shirts.

Pullover sweaters
These, for example, can be pulled over the head, the origin of their name. A pullover is also known as a jumper and covers up your neck and protects you from the cold weather by providing an extra shield.

Sweater shirts/vests
They are nothing but a cotton fabric jumper. They look trendy and are a yes for the modern person. They look good at say a house party and night walks. Sweater shirts are a perfect balance for one to stay warm and looking trendy at the same time.

Turtlenecks and V-necks
These particularly look cool and are perfect for people who wish to maintain an urban style. They typically have skinnier straps and allow for the lapels of the dress shirt to show through.

Wearing a complementary shirt with your sweater can really add style.
Cindy Kemigisha, a designer, says one can upgrade the look of his or her sweater with a belt, scarf or boots.
She says this is a trick that can give you a great look for a weekend or a funky work environment.

Kemigisha adds that accessorising body hugging and free sweaters with a bit of necklaces is also in vogue because they accentuate some of your features.
