THE First Lady, Mrs. Janet Museveni, has advised married couples to remain faithful to each other in order to fight against the increasing rate of HIV/AIDS among the married.

Launching “The Love Wheel” campaign on Friday at Gold Course Hotel, Mrs. Museveni said it was sad that HIV prevalence was higher among the married than the youth.

She added that research findings indicated that society encouraged promiscuity.

Mrs. Museveni urged couples to value marriage, saying it was a spiritual, emotional and physical bond between husband and wife, a great privilege and an expression of God’s perfect love for all creation.

She emphasised the need by corporate companies to support campaigns that are geared at preventing HIV among the youth, noting that a sick workforce was not healthy for the development of a country.

According to statistics from the health ministry, over 1.2m people are living with HIV, and over 100,000 people get infected annually. Of the infected, about 67% are in monogamous marriages. About 43% of the married couples get infected annually.

The Love Wheel is an innovation tool aimed at strengthening marriages and promoting mutual fidelity among couples.

According to the Programme for Accessible Health, Communication and Education boss, Susan Mukasa, “The Love Wheel”, is the second phase of the ‘Go RED’ campaign, which promotes mutual faithfulness and interpersonal communication in marriage.

The wheel was developed by a team of 12 relationship experts. It contains love tips for married couples.
