A voter in Kamuli district has challenged the nomination of the NRM LC5 flag-bearer, Ahmed Kawugu.

In a November 11 petition to Eng. Badru Kiggundu, the Electoral Commission chairman, Sarah Musobya of Namwendwa village in Nabwigulu sub-county said Kawugu did not meet the minimum academic qualifications to contest for the position.

Kawugu defeated Kamuli district LC5 chairman, Stephen Mubiru, in the party primaries.

Kawugu has a pre-university entry certificate, a certificate in business administration and another for formal education, equivalent to an A’level certificate.

“We wonder how he could have been admitted to do a course at university when he did not complete primary education,” the petition stated.

Musobya said Kawugu’s certificate of completion of formal education was neither processed through the Uganda National Examinations Board, nor was it signed by the Executive Secretary of the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

According to Musobya, some years back, Kawugu used the same documents to get nominated for the same post.

However, Kawugu’s spokesperson, Tomas Kategere, said NCHE verified Kawugu’s papers.

Kawugu has twice lost the LC5 seat in the recent past.
