THREE NRM MPs were yesterday nominated as independent candidates in Bunyoro sub-region.

The legislators are Tom Kyahurwenda for Bugahuzi county in Hoima, Sam Otada Amooti for Kibanda county in Kiryandongo and Erisa Kaahwa for Buruli in Masindi district.

The MPs said they were forced to run as independents due to massive rigging in the NRM primaries.

Kyahurwenda said he was arrested by the Police on the polling day on allegations that he had killed his supporters.

Kaahwa is contesting against Prof. Mijumbi Nyira, the official NRM flag-bear, while Otada Amooti will wrestle it out with George Baitera.

Jackson Tibanyenda, who also lost in the NRM primaries, was nominated as an independent candidate for Buhaguzi county, together with Onesmus Byamukama (FDC).

In Bugahya county, Samuel Tumusiime was nominated as an independent, while Richard Agaba is the People’s Progressive Party flag-bearer.

Tophas Kaahwa, the Hoima district Woman NRM flag-bearer, was also cleared.

Two more independent candidates, Edith Aliguma and Alice Kagasangaki, booked for nominations today.

In Buliisa district, Dr. Godfrey Kamugisa, who lost to the incumbent MP for Buliisa county, Steven Mukitale, was nominated as an independent,
