Earlier, a fight broke out during nominations at City Hall between DP supporters of local artist Eddy Yawe and supporters of Singh Katongole (NRM). The supporters tried to force their way into the gate, beating up a policeman during the scuffle. Yawe is vying for Kampala Central, while Katongole is contesting for Rubaga North.
Yawe and his supporters accused the security personnel and the NRM supporters of blocking them from accessing the venue.
They also accused the Police in Wandegeya of denying his entourage access to the city, forcing Yawe to abandon his convoy and use a boda boda.
The supporters continued to exchange insults as Katongole went to the nomination table, but it was not until the Police intervened that tempers cooled down.
Vincent Sserunjogi, the Electoral Commission sub-county superviser for Kawempe division, said Yawe had booked today (Friday) as his nomination date.
He explained that he told Yawe to wait so that he could first attend to those who had booked before him but in vain.
