THERE was drama at the Gulu Electoral Commission offices when Charles Odokonyero, a teacher at Wilul Primary School in Aswa county turned up for nominations with a red card.

Odokonyero, who was contesting on the People’s Progressive Party ticket against incumbent MP Reagan Okumu was, however, first sent away by the returning officer after presenting a fake resignation letter.

The Police, who escorted Odokonyero to the office of the chief administrative officer for the resignation letter said he should have been arrested for presenting a forged document.

Odokonyero was later nominated after presenting a resignation letter signed by the deputy chief administrative officer.

After his nomination, Odokonyero said the red card was for Okumu who has personalized the Aswa County parliamentary seat. “This is the time for youthful people like us,” he said.

Others who were nominated include former Omoro MP Jacob Oulanyah (NRM),Timothy Jokkene Okee (Independent) for Gulu Municipality. Also nominated were Johnson Olwa Agara Bermuda (NRM) for Aswa constituency.

The incumbent woman MP for Gulu district, Betty Aol Ocan (FDC), was also nominated. “We need electoral reform so that all parties are comfortable with the commission when it comes to elections,” she said.

UPC flag bearer for Gulu district woman MP, Grace Auma Okello and Omoro incumbent MP, Simon Toolit Akecha (FDC) were also nominated.
