Mayor's office requires seasoned candidates

Kampalans ruefully remember the Kulubyas, Walusimbi Mpanga, Ssemaganda and more recently, Ssebaana Kizito, as men of stature worth of the mayoral accreditations.

The mentioned former mayors were highly respected men, propertied, and mature. The present candidates are men enough just like those I have mentioned, but I must also point out that we have also had MPs just straight from school.

They have been called 'schoolboys' even when you and me know that was unfair. But that is politics! Uganda has a very good constitution which is normally read and taken at face value. That is the very reason a person who cannot even win a seat at a district council would vie for the presidency!

We ought to respect the potfolios on the offer because they reflect what the rest of society is. I have always laughed when a convicted felon was received and later elected with a landslide victory in the city and yet the voters expected better!
