PRUDENCE Ahabwe finally had the chance to meet her showbiz idol, singer Dr. Hilderman a.k.a Hillary Kiyaga famous for the song Amelia when Blitz hooked her up with the star last Sunday evening at Rubaga Centre. She told Pidson Kareire about the meeting.

Occupation
High school student, Kasubi Secondary School

Ambition
Hopes to become a musician one day.

Favourite music style
Loves Afro beat and Country music.

What, in particular, makes this singer your favourite?
I really love his voice. It is totally different from the voices of many local singers. The high pitch he hits makes him unique… I simply love that. I fell in love with his voice the moment I heard it. I also like the way he expresses anger and despair in Matama, his collaboration with Henry Tigan. It’s laden with emotion.

Did you talk about that song with him?
Not really. He told me how he has registered his Record Label-Zunguli Hood, of which he is the executive director. He also said he writes/composes all his songs.

We briefly talked about his family. He told me he has two children with his fiancé.

Have you ever wished to be close to a celebrity like him?
Yes. It feels good to be close to such people because you quench your urge, but also you learn one or two things about them.

What did you learn about Hilderman?
No matter who you are, you need to be free with other people. He was so free with me. He told me he had just come back from a show in Hoima, but I could not detect any fatigue in him. He kept me busy until we parted.

Did the interaction change your perception of him?
Somehow; because I have always harboured the feeling that stars are proud and desire to keep their distance. I now know that is not true.

How do you describe his personality?
He is approachable and hospitable.

What are your three favourite songs from Hilderman?
That is a tough one… however, Mazongoto opened my eyes to his music.

Where does he fall on your list of top 20 singers in Uganda?
I have always been attracted to Afro beat music because of the emotions and soul that goes into writing these songs. That said, Hilderman would definitely be my number one.
