FOUR people have been nominated to stand for the Mbarara Municipality parliamentary seat.
These are Maj. John Bashaija Kazoora (FDC), Dr. Medard Bitekyerezo (NRM) as well as Nick Rutahaba Kashaija and Michael Tusiime, who are both independents.
Kazoora, who is the FDC’s secretary for defence, vowed to take the hotly-contested seat, saying he was more focused on causing change and development in Mbarara than his opponents.
Dr. Bitekyerezo said he was not threatened by his opponents because his party had enough support in the area, while Kashaija, who disagreed with the FDC party leadership, said he wanted to serve Ugandans equally by avoiding divisions.
Meanwhile, two people, Emma Boona (NRM) and Jolly Mugisha (Independent), were cleared to contest for the Mbarara district Woman seat.
In Rwampara County, MP Charles Ngabirano, a strong supporter of NRM, stood as an independent candidate after losing to Vincent Mujuni in the NRM primaries.
Ngabirano is battling it out with four other candidates: NRM flag-bearer Vincent Mujuni, Israel Tukwatanise Kazooba (FDC) as well as Capt. Erick Sande and one Muyambi, both independents.
For the Kashari County seat, the Mbarara district chairman, Wilber Yaguma Rutashokwa (NRM), is contesting against Winston Mwine Rwakanengyere (Independent), Moses Nuwagaba (UPC) and Daniel Nuwagira Kafureeka (FDC).
The Mbarara district Electoral Commission registrar, Dan Kamusiime Ruhemba, said 14 candidates were nominated to stand for various posts last Thursday.
