AS we come to the end of the year, the music calendar is also ending. But it ends in style; like the biblical parable, artistes who sowed well will reap well, and those who did not sow will not reap.

On Saturday, Ugandan female artistes will be rewarded according to their musical performance when the Afrika Diva Music Awards 2010 take place at Theatre Labonita for sh30,000 (ordinary seating) and sh50,000 (VIP).

This year however, the cash prizes have been scrapped. Instead, the winner in Diva of the year category, R&B, Hip-hop and ragga/reggae will have her music handled by producers from the US and UK.

In addition, there shall be a year’s recording deal from the awards organisers and access to a recording studio of their choice.

The new awards this year are; the humanitarian diva award, the special achievement diva award and the media personnel award.

In the other categories, there are four nominees in each of the 18 categories of the awards and winners are determined by the fans’ votes.

Jackie Chandiru, Iryn Namubiru; Juliana Kanyomozi; Cindy and Grace Nakimera are up for the diva of the year.

The new artiste of the year is also highly contested. This category includes, Samalie Matovu, of Omukwano Gunyuma, Julie Mutesasira of Ekikunyumira and Empress of Awete.
