Kaliba and Muhanga, defeat is sometimes good

EDITOR: I am dismayed by the mess in the politics of Kabarole. I am talking about Margaret Muhanga and Stephen Kaliba, both NRM MPs running as independents. I hear the two did a good job for the district and Fort Portal Municipality.

Although I have not lived in the area in the past, when I look around I can see some of the good things they have accomplished and it disturbs me to see that the two cannot accept defeat and rally behind their party nominated flag-bearers.

The two politicians should know that sometimes defeat is good because it gives the opportunity to look back and examine yourself from what you did not achieve. When the opportunity strikes again, you can bounce back and serve your people even better, with respect.

Crying foul and standing as independents shows lack of respect for your party and makes one wonder what is at stake running as an MP these days.

Kabarole District and Fort Portal Municipality have other potential leaders who can serve the people just as well, so please do not enslave people there with your selfishness.

Accept defeat and move on, because I am sure with your experience and qualifications, you can serve your people in different ways. I am equally sure that there is life outside Parliament.

EDITOR: Our Woman MP Margaret Muhanga has been busy in Kampala since the results of the primary elections were announced!

On August 31, Muhanga went on Radio VOT in Fort Portal and declared that she was leading by 2,000 votes although that was a complete lie! Muhanga is not alone.

Stephen Kaliba is also in Kampala. Both of them have been nominated as independents after badly losing in the NRM primaries and are crying foul. The people are eagerly waiting for February 18, 2011.
