PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni, has urged traditional leaders to continue protecting and preserving culture without compromising the importance of national unity.

He said the NRM Government restored traditional leaders so people of different cultures could enjoy unity in the diversity of other cultures.

Museveni said traditional leaders had the task of mobilising people to participate in community-based development.

This was contained in a message delivered by the second deputy premier, Ali Kirunda Kivejinja, at the wedding reception of the Kamuswaga of Kooki, Apollo Sansa Kabumbuli II, on Saturday.

The reception was held at Royal Park at Rakai district headquarters after Kabumbuli and Rebecca Tulituuka exchanged vows at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe.

Museveni commended the Kamuswaga and the people of Kooki for putting God before any other thing.

In addition to the sh50m he had earlier given the Kamuswaga to organise the function, Museveni gave the couple sh5m and nine heifers.

Mengo health minister Nelson Kawalya, who represented Buganda premier Eng. JB Walusimbi, urged the Kamuswaga to make arrangements to introduce the bride to Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

The Sabaruuli, Mwogezi Butamanya, and the Sabanyala, Capt. Baker Kimeze, the controversial traditional leaders who are objected by the Buganda kingdom, attended the reception, although they were not introduced to the gathering.
