KAMPALA Mayoral candidate, Peter Sematimba will, today, drop his well pressed suits and political repertoire for something funkier.

He leads a crop of revellers to perform at Vision Voice’s “Back to Da roots” party in Silk Lounge tonight.

Sematimba, famed for his 1990s quiet storm song, Baby Kyana will lead an array of 90s artistes like Ragga Dee, Emperor Orlandoh, Rasta Rob MC, Simon Base Kalema, Shanks Vivi D, Steve Jean and Kid fox who were a toast at the time.

Andrew Kabuura, Vision Voice’s Promotions manager notes that Ugandan music is now a mélange of hip hop, reggae, ragga, zouk, Afrobeat, and bongo flava among other music genres.

However, back in the 90s, it was a unique blend of music that only those around the time, understood better.

“These artistes are special for one thing; their collective effort saw Uganda kick out Congolese music once and for all. Fans shall toast to that,” he says.

Remember that simple song without any real meaning? Yes. We are talking Ragga Dee’s Bamusakata. It will be in full force and, with the hottest DJ of the 90’s DJ Berry (Abdul Aziz Nsabimana) deceased, another hot 90’s DJ, famed for the hot mix, R.S Elvis, will be tasked to step in his shoes.

Songs like Kakookolo by Perfect Generation, Owundikwenda by Terry Divos, Sirika Baby and Kakongolijjo k’e Kikajjo (Emperor Orlando and the Late Menton Summer) are expected to evoke the memories, though Jose Chameleon is also expected to perform for effect.

“After performances, we shall dance to old school videos and music of the 90’s,” Kabuura adds.
