IT is Christmas time again; a time to give gifts to loved ones as a way of expressing how much you cherish and appreciate them.

However, you can break away from the routine of giving the ordinary gift items and try out the recent supermarkets’ gift innovation of Christmas family and special gift hampers.

Gift hampers are baskets filled and wrapped with various items. These can be got in supermarkets around town at pocket friendly prices.

Choosing a Christmas family hamper for a loved one or family means more than just an ordinary gift. With the escalating food prices, the hamper is a perfect way to help you cut down food costs.

Jeff Nchaga, the manager Uchumi Supermarket on Garden City, explains that Christmas family hampers are packaged with foodstuff that includes 2kg baking flour, 1kg margarine, 2kg Tilda rice, macaroon, 3 litres of cooking oil, salt, tea bags, 200g of Milo, 2kg of sugar, 500g of Nomi detergent, 400g tomato sauce top up and Zesta Red Plum to take one through the festive season.

Prices for Christmas family hampers range from sh30,000 to sh60,000 depending on the number of items enclosed.

He adds that the exciting bit about choosing a family hamper is that you can alter the face of the hamper by changing items or adding extras such as wines, chocolates or beers to suit the receiver’s preference.

Alternatively, Willy Kakuru, the manager Capital Shoppers Nakawa branch, says a gift hamper can also be personalised for you depending on your preference and budget.

You can choose to give it away as a gift or buy it for your family since it contains foodstuff that you can cook during the festive season.

This way, you will be cutting down costs since the package translates to subsidised prices.

Kakuru adds that if you are out to get ideal gifts for your staff, business partners or customers, there are special corporate gift hampers in place. These are packaged with items such as wine, mayonnaise, pringles original, jam and wine glasses.

To make them appealing, the hampers are customised with ribbons and gift tags that are designed in your company colours and branded with the company logo. All you have to do is to let your employees make selections that fall in the package price range.

Cut costs and make the festive season exciting by choosing a perfect family gift hamper.
