SIX people died in four separate incidents that occurred as Christians celebrated Christmas at the weekend.

In Kito village in Luwero district, residents awoke to the gory murder of a resident, Herbert Mawerere, 22.

The body was found without a head in his one-room house on Christmas eve.  The Police later recovered a bloodstained machete, suspected to have been used in the murder, dumped in a nearby unused pit-latrine.

According to the district investigations boss, David Otim, the deceased had earlier complained about getting death threats from David Bogere, who accused him of eloping with his (Bogere) wife.

Mawerere’s brother-in-law, Semwaga Lutaaya, said Bogere had lately blamed his failed marriage with Mary Namuwaya on Mawerere. Namuwaya recently left their marital home for an unknown place.

Bogere, who was Mawerere’s neighbour, disappeared after the murder, Otim added.

“We realised that he had removed everything from his house and was nowhere to be seen,” Otim stated, adding that detectives were hunting for him.

Murder in Mityana
In another incident in Mityana district, Gonza Kasirye, 25, a resident of Gayaza in Kakindu sub-county, was stabbed to death following a quarrel over a woman.

Kasirye is said to have gone to a discotheque, where he met the woman. Apparently, other men were eyeing the same woman.

Kasirye was later attacked by four men.

The district Police chief, Patrick Bagambaki, identified the attackers as Alex Kaggwe of Kasubi in Kampala, Dennis Ntale, Ismael Kafuuma and John Ntaganda.

“They beat up Kasirye and stabbed him in the chest and he died instantly,” Bagambaki said.

The suspects, together with four others on the run, were travelling in a taxi, which was impounded.

Later, the Police in Kibibi, Butambala, arrested Kaggwe as he tried to flee.

In another incident, residents of Kalolo village in Kiyoganyi parish recovered a body of an unknown man on Christmas day.

The deceased was a man of about 30 years.

According to the Police, there were bruises on the body and he had no clothes.

Another body was recovered at Kakonde Tea Estate on Thursday. The deceased, John Bimbuka, 33, was a casual labourer in the area.

Mityana crime chief Mary Tusiime said iron-bar wielding men might have hit Bimbuka. The two bodies were taken to the Mityana Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Bundibugyo
In Bundibugyo district, Innocent Mutegeki, 20, of Katanga in Bundibugyo town council was murdered, reportedly by a lunatic under unclear circumstances, according to the district Police commander, Denis Namuwoza.

Kamwenge
A related incident occurred in  Kamwenge district where, according to the crime boss, Diana Alumo, an unidentified person was murdered in Nkoma sub-country and his body dumped by the roadside.

Kabarole
In Kabarole district, a couple was left in tears when their child was killed in a fire as they partied in a trading centre in Nyankwazi village in Kichwamba sub-county.

The baby, only identified as Tumusiime, died when a candle fell on flammable material in the house.

The parents, Steven Asimwe and his wife, Jane Night, were arrested over child neglect.
