THE Iteso cultural leader, Emorimor Augustine Osuban, on Boxing Day attended the Iteso cultural festival at Kakapel community cultural centre in Teso, Kenya.

Osuban told the Iteso of Kenya to value their rich cultural heritage and abandon the Western culture, which he said was detrimental to the morality of true Africans.

He advised parents to raise their children to respect their elders and value their community.

The chief told parents not to discriminate against children who are not bright, and advised them to instead help them exploit their talents.

He regretted that the life expectancy of his subjects had decreased because of poor nutrition, and advised the Iteso to revert to traditional foods.

The Iteso Cultural Union chairman, Nicholas Dokoria, warned the Iteso in Kenya against working in isolation, saying they would lose everything if they failed to unite.

Dokoria said for unity to be realised, there was need for forgiveness.

Tororo county MP Geoffrey Ekanya appealed to Kenyans to pray for the opposition in Uganda, and predicted that the country would have a new government after next year’s general elections.

The Iteso culture minister, Elizabeth Laini, said the only way for the Iteso in Kenya to end decades of disunity was for the leaders to organise a cleansing ceremony to exorcise evil spirits.
