THE King of Toro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, will announce his new prime minister today.

Rev. Richard Baguma, an advisor to the king, told New Vision on Wednesday that the king would hold his first meeting with his cabinet since he assumed full power over his kingdom on April 17.

After announcing the new premier, Baguma said Oyo would swear in and elect a new cabinet to work with.

Toro kingdom has been operating without a prime minister and a speaker, which affected the kingdom businesses.

On October, the king sacked prime minister William Nyakatura.

In his October 16, letter, addressed to Nyakatura, the King said: “I am writing with regard to your position as prime minister of Toro Kingdom. As part of my administrative reorganisation of the kingdom, I have taken a decision to discharge you from the office of the prime minister with immediate effect.”

However, the clan heads defied the king’s order and reinstated Nyakatura, who assumed full powers of the Kingdom.

The kingdom has been embroiled in a power struggle that saw the kingdom security minister, Chris Kaijabwango, locking up offices and chambers, implying that Toro’s supreme council (Orukurato) could no longer convene at its headquarters.

The king’s decision to sack Nyakatura also prompted some of the leaders to drag the monarch to court.

The clan heads argued that the letter sacking Nyakatura was not written by the king, but individuals who wanted to use the kingdom’s resources for personal gain.

Baguma said the king would also elect three new regents to take care of the kingdom affairs while he is away for studies.

The kingdom’s constitution states that in case the king is out of his kingdom, sick or still a minor, at least two regents should be appointed to act on his behalf in running the kingdom.
