Dear Readers, Lifestyle was well-represented at all of the happening scenes in 2002. Now Timothy Bukumunhe and Denis Jjuuko reminisce and have made a list of the top 50 people (in no order) who graced these pages.

l Alice Katiti, Regional Manager, South African Airways
Alice Katiti, is always on the scene. She manages to slip in almost unnoticed, sometimes in the company of her husband and her children who have model looks. Extremely smart at every function she attends.

l Goretti Masadde, Assistant brand manager, Bell Lager.
She was almost not known before. It was Sandor Walusimbi all over the place. Now she has the makings of a celebrity written all over her.

l Wilfred Bangi, Sanyu FM presenter.
His move from MTN and Radio One to Sanyu FM increased his social ratings and he became a prominent Mercedes 190E driver. The Sanyu Babies fundraiser was one of those many functions he presided over. ‘Annoyingly’ he played his oldies at just about everybody’s leaving party!

l Seanice Kacungira, Sanyu FM presenter.
She hit the social scene like a stealth bomber. She had a small stint on WBS’ Showtime Magazine where she was noticed and that landed her a job on Sanyu FM. After taking over from Crystal Newman on the station’s Sunrise Show, Seanice has never been the same, even overshadowing her co-presenter, Bangi.

l Chris Cotton, Programme Director, Capital FM.
The quiet PD from New Zealand was catapulted into the limelight courtesy of his association with presenter Karitas Karisimbi. The question on everybody’s lips was ‘did they do it?’. Since he and Karitas ‘came out’ he’s a regular on the society scene.

l Jessica Keyeune, Public Relations Miss Uganda.
Well her job means being around the beauty queen and the publicity that comes with it. So she exploited that very well. Her claim to fame this year was showing off her ‘G-string’ as she knelt down to greet former president Binaisa at a Miss Uganda function at Kabira Club.

l Karitas Karisimbi, Capital FM presenter.
She was all over the society pages. First she threw a birthday party and most people were heard complaining about her age. She said she was 23. Then she left WBS TV for Capital FM where her romance details were splashed in some sections of the media. But she has created herself a niche as an emcee. Do you remember the official launch of Victoria Tavern on Kampala Road?

l Rita Okuthe, Communications Manager, MTN
The fair-skinned beauty from Kenya, who has a thing for piling her faces with tonnes of make-up, has been a regular on the party scene ever since she stepped off Kenya Airways.

l Jay Tana, Former MP Eastern Uganda.
Whether in Tororo, Mbale or Kampala, the burley failed politician made an impact on the social scene. He never missed any of the social gatherings. Always stands out because he comes along with a bodyguard.

l Brenda Z’Obbo, Radio One presenter.
The babe with the silky voice karate kicked her boyfriend in Club Silk! But that did not stop her from enjoying her social life. She graced these pages more than any other person at Radio One.

l Marion Adengo, Brand Manager, UBL
You don’t need to see her face to know that she is around. You just hear her laughing and you know she is around!

l Brenda Mbathi, Marketing Manager, UBL
All we know about her is that she is always in the company of her hubby.

l Kitili Mbathi, General Manager, Stanbic Bank Little is known of him, but he has been around. Always wearing a suit at every function cutting the corporate figure

l Peter Kasedde, uganda telecom

l Peter Kaggwa, Corporate Executive, uganda telecom. Simply, uganda telecom thrust him into the limelight.

l Sanjay Tana.
Jay Tana’s brother. Got his name included on the invitations list simply because he was a Tana and Jay Tana’s brother at that. He does not stay till the end of any party.

l Alex and Dru Ndawula.
Kampala’s loud mouth, Alex Ndawula had what you would call a permanent place in the society pages. Together with better half Dru, the couple never ceased to ‘take place’ at functions.

l Ronnie Sempangi, former Capital FM presenter.
The erstwhile KT20 presenter rose to fame and the social scene because of his association with an elderly white woman. It was the talk at every party - ‘what is he doing with granny?’ Since he left the station, and the granny left him, he has faded into obscurity.

l Peter Ssematimba, President Super FM.
He has always been a name. But once Peter went Solo his status rose further. The Rubaga-based showman has never lost ‘gas’ on the social scene. Perhaps the smartest dressed man on the social scene.

l Owen Kibenge, UTV/CBS journalist.
The showy boy from Busoga has been around for yet another year. Together with fellow Basoga, the failed politician successfully organised the Kyabazinga bash or something of the sort. Since then, his name has continued to feature throughout the year.

l Marcus Kiryowa, Presenter, Showtime Magazine.
“Marcus who?” He was never known, though he presented Gospel Soul on the same station. His lucky stars only shone after taking over from Karitas. The extremely humourous Showtime Magazine star has since made a mark and fairing well in these pages.

l Wasswa Birigwa, Ambassador-in-waiting.
The grey-haired would-be Ambassador was nicknamed ‘Ambassador of parties’ simply because he is always there. And the question everybody asked whenever they saw him is “when are you getting a posting?”

l Dr. Ian Clarke, Kampala International Hospital.
The medic didn’t keep himself in the confines of his Old Kampala-based hospital. He always had two dates to choose from - his wife Robbie or daughter Lauren.

l Judy Rugasira, Knight Frank.
“Don’t take my picture please!” are the words Judy utters whenever the the camera lens focuses on her. At every function she chooses to attend, she always keeps a low profile.

l Billy Blick, Club Pilsner.
Though Billy has been on a fizzle since he and Karitas Karisimbi parted company he did try to keep a stiff upper lip. At almost every party he was clad in a T-shirt and is not as boisterous as he used to be last year.

l Olive Lumonya, PR Nile Breweries.
She sells not only Nile beers but the Njeru-based company and at every function that had something to do with Nile Breweries. Often alone at functions.

l William Kalema, Director, Simba Blankets.
Dr. Kalema had every reason to be on the circuit. Not only was he head of UMA, he is also a director in quite a number of companies. That aside, at every function he is huddled in a corner engrossed in corporate talk.

l Frank Griffith, MD Barclays Bank.
A big bank needs a big man and surely a big party needs a big banker to finance it. Griffith did his best at that, appearing at a number of social venues.

l Gigi Magezi, PR, Multi-Choice Uganda.
Big Brother the South Africa edition and World Cup 2002 football placed her among the many society names.

l John Taylor, General Manager, dfcu.
Silver-haired Taylor has a clique he always hangs out with at parties - Patrick Cardwell, Frank Griffith and on occasion, William Kalema. A very witty man and one who knows how to make parties happen.

l Patrick Cardwell, General Manager, UBL.
The outgoing General Manager of Uganda Breweries is always straight to the point. “Tusker is one of the best brands in the land,” he says at almost every party. Knows how to enjoy himself.

l Olivia Lokwiya, Nemco Certification Manager.
Dread-locked Olivia is known on the circuit because she always hangs out with her eccentric bazugu (European) friends and has a passion for being loud and annoying.
