Leaders in Bushenyi district have called on the Government to give a hero’s status to the late Lt. Col. Sam Katabarwa .
Sheema North MP Dr. Eryodi Tumwesigye announced the leaders’ appeal on Friday at Katabarwa’s family re-union at Kabwohe, Kagango in Bushenyi.
“The late Katabarwa was a peace envoy who deserves a monument,†Tumwesigye said, recalling that Katabarwa was brutally killed in 1984 by the late Paul Muwanga’s UPC regime, when he entered Uganda to negotiate for peace.
Tumwesigye said those who died for peace could only be paid through collective effort in fighting rebels and internal wars.
Regional cooperation state minister Col. Kahinda Otafiire, blamed those who support political parties for the several calamities in Uganda.
The East African Community Secretary General, Amanya Mushega, asked the elders to guide Ugandans towards development.
Kesi Katabarwa Foundation, an NGO and a book titled, “Manya Ab’ekika kyabwe†(know your clan) were launched.
