MAKERERE University Vice Chancellor Professor John Ssebuwufu today presides over the 42nd graduation ceremony where about 2,800 students will be awarded undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and diplomas.
This will be the first time in 17 years that the head of state has not presided over the ceremony.
Makerere University has no Chancellor at the moment. The President ceased to be Chancellor of Makerere University under the new Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act. He is only a ‘special visitor’ at all the state universities.
President Yoweri Museveni’s absence at the ceremony has been attributed to his tight schedule.
The graduation that normally takes place in October was delayed for three months because there was a delay in setting up the University Council.
