THE Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels on Saturday night raided Kitgum town and abducted mostly primary school children and a prison warder identified as Tolbert Ogaba.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Kitgum prison, Charles Okori, said his warder was in rebel captivity.

“I appeal to the rebels to release Ogaba,” Okori said.

Kitgum Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Capt. Santo Okot Lapolo said some of the abducted children had escaped and reported back to their homes.

“A number of them have escaped and joined their parents,” Lapolo said.

He said the estimated 30 rebels from Pader stormed Kitgum town with axes and pangas and abducted people and looted some property.

Reports from Kitgum town indicated that fear and tension had gripped the residents following the Saturday raid by the rebels.
