A group of elders in West Budama county, Tororo district, have vowed to topple the cultural leader, Adhola Moses Stephen Owor, reports Abraham Odeke.

The elders claim that a ‘popular king and a representative cabinet had already been picked and would soon be sworn-in at Nyakiriga Shrine.

Prutansio Okech Ofwono, who claims to be the new king’s minister of information and publicity, told The New Vision in Tororo on Tuesday that the current Jopadhola cultural leader was illegally occupying the king’s throne.

“We are making final arrangements for the installation of Majanga Junior as the genuine king of the Jopadhola. He is the son of King Majanga The First, who was our ruler between 1856-1905 when he died,” Okech said.

He claimed that only those from Nyapolo-Ogule clan are supposed to occupy the cultural throne because they are the direct descendants of King Majanga The First. “Moses Stephen Owor (current cultural leader) is not from the Majanga dynasty. He belongs to the remote Bendo clan, but the politicians rigged him onto the king’s throne,” Okech said.

According to Okech, Majanga Junior cannot continue living in self exile while his throne was being occupied by a ‘foreigner’.
