FORMER national rally champion Emma Katto returns to the Caltex Rally after four years, with a burning desire to stop defending champion Moses Lumala and Charlie Lubega’s dominance.
“I think the first section was made for Charlie. Its smooth and he will definitely take it. We will attack from the second (section) and nothing can stop me except my car.
“With Lumala also in, we will have a good time. I will miss (Charles) Muhangi, he should have apologised, he makes it more interesting,” Katto who draws huge crowds commented.
The 60-kilometre Kigombya-Nyenga opening section of the second leg is the longest in the rally.
“For sure we are back for the entire championship and we will give our fans a lot.”
However, national champion Lubega buoyed by a sh55m TOTAL cheque and out to avenge a 10-minute defeat at the hands of Lumala, in the last edition will be difficult to stop.
Caltex Rally Team’s Lumala said he would do his best to retain the title.
“It is a Caltex rally, I will fight it out. I would very much love to win it and I will go for a win,” the bald-shaven driver, seeking an unprecedented third Caltex victory, said.
Despite an anticipated hot race at the top, rule out Dembe Rally Team’s Kuku Ranjit at your peril. The rally, which is the opening round of the 2003 National Rally Championship will start with a super special stage at Kaazi today.
Tomorrow drivers will tackle six competitive sections spread out in Wakiso, Mukono and Kayunga districts.
