THE parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) yesterday gave the commissioner for poverty eradication Beekunda G. Mwene up to March to account for the sh9.92b disbursed to various districts under the Entandikwa credit scheme.
PAC also directed that the proprietor of Joskins General Agency be arrested for disappearing before completing his contractual obligation with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
This followed submissions by the accounting officer J. G. Muhairwe that the company, which was contracted to renovate Mobuku Centre in Kasese under the ministry, vanished after receiving his payments.
PAC, chaired by Jack Sabiiti (Rukiga) also directed the new permanent secretary Ralph Ochan to formulate, within two months, a comprehensive policy guideline for effective implementation of the scheme.
The committee was discussing with officials from the ministry on queries raised by the Auditor General for the 2000/2001 financial year.
