SOROTI district has received sh260m from the central government to finance the Local Government Development Programme (LGDP).
In a recent interview with The New Vision, the Soroti chief administrative officer, George Omuge, said the district would use the money for investment projects at sub-county level.
He said 65% of the money would be put on sub-county accounts.
He, however, called for proper accountability of the money.
He said some of the money would be used to construct 10 classroom blocks through the School Facility Grant.
Omuge had earlier said the district would construct teacher’s houses this financial year.
He said over sh1bn was expected this year, to construct 75 classrooms, 100 pit latrines and buy 1,700 classroom desks.
He said sh477.9m was earmarked to construct 40 classrooms, 50 stances of pit latrine and buy 844 classroom desks.
He also said the district would receive sh1.7b from the local Government development fund.
Omuge said 44% of Soroti’s water sources produced safe water.
He said 24 boreholes and five shallow wells had been constructed in four sub-counties. Ends
