MTN Uganda and Crane Bank have entered into a partnership to provide their customers with a convenient way of purchasing airtime and service fee for their mobile phones from the Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs).

The strategic partnership launched on Friday by the two institutions also brings Crane Bank closer to introducing other missing banking services like Telephone Banking.

“Telephone banking is on the agenda this year. We first want to complete the first phase of expanding our ATM network throughout the country, then embark on the telephone banking program,” Ajay Khumar, Assistant General manager Crane Bank said.

According to the partnership deal, starting Friday 31st, MTN Pay As You Go customers who are Crane Bank ATM card holders will be in position to purchase airtime or service fee and load it onto their phones.

Samson Muwanguzi, Chairman Crane Bank said the service is free. “Apart from the money the customers intends to use to purchase airtime or service fee, there will be no other deductions made on the deposits or account,” he said.

This is how the service will work: A Crane Bank ATM holder after entering a pin code will be given an option of either purchasing airtime or service fee. The ATM will then give the customer different airtime denominations or service fee of sh10, 000.

The ATM will then print a voucher with a serial number, which the customer loads on to their phones.

“MTN will continue to work with innovative companies like Crane bank to make access to its services more convenient and quicker. Now a customer can purchase airtime or service fee at any of the 15 crane Access ATMs,” Phillip Besiimire MTN PRO said.

Crane Bank presently has 15 ATMs located in 12 different centres in and outside Kampala.

Crane Bank launched the same service with Uganda telecom in October last year. Crane Bank system now enables SMS Banking, Electronic banking, payment of utility bills through ATMs and point of sales.
