WHOEVER sees Andrew Mukasa should bring him at Nakivubo at 4.30pm for Express’ quarterfinal tie against Nzoia FC.
The Express star, is needed by his coach Leo Adraa, who does not know where he is.
Although Mukasa has not trained with the team since their match against Rwanda’s Rayon Sports on Wednesday when he scored both goals in their 2-1 win, Adraa has reserved a place on the starting XI for him.
“He has not reported for training but we have reserved a number for him. I will field him in case he shows up,” Adraa said of temperamental striker Mukasa.
Mukasa lays his own rules, skips training and avoids residential camp, but always makes a surprise appearance to score crucial goals for the club. Wednesday was a classic example of his abilities.
Adraa said Mukasa is indispensable, simply because he does form a lethal partnership with Hassan Mubiru.
If he appears, Mukasa will lead the assault in the Red Eagles bid to win the CECAFA club top prize of $30,000.
He played in Express’ first match against St. George but failed to score. “He is good at scoring when he gets that chance,” insisted Adraa.
“The team is okay and we are going to take this game like any other game. Nzoia are good but we will play our game and avoid any pressure,” he said.
CECAFA shifted the quarterfinal tie at Nakivubo from Thursday to Wednesday in order not to divide the local fans who would have to choose between Express and Villa playing on the same day.
Express are seeking their first CECAFA title. Only KCC and Villa have won the CECAFA title before, in 1978 and 1987.
Today’s quarterfinal action at Nakivubo starts with Eritrea’s Red Sea battling Burundi’s Muzinga, who thrashed Somalia’s Borrer 8-0 in the qualifiers.
In Mbale, defending champions Simba will host Sudan’s Khartoum 3 at Mbale Municipal stadium.
CECAFA secretary general Nicholas Musonye yesterday said the old tie-breaker rules will apply.
In case of a draw, teams will play an extra 30 minutes and if there is no winner, they will then go for a penalty shootout.
Musonye also announced a new rule, which will require only the starting players to make it to the field in time or be fined $100.
Yanga were fined $50 for not producing passports in their last encounter while Express were fined the same amount when two players exchanged jerseys.
