THE United States Department of Justice (DOJ) advised the Government to arrange an interview with Steven Kagyezi, ex-minister Richard Kaijuka’s son, over the $10,000 he claimed he deposited on his father’s London bank account.
Yunusu Abbey writes that DOJ officials made the request when a Government delegation met them in Washington DC last August. The DOJ is also probing the $10,000 bribery allegations against ex-minister Kaijuka. Kagyezi is reportedly studying in an Australian university.
Dr. James Lukobya, Uganda’s consul in Sydney, Australia, has reportedly requested for investigators to interview Kagyezi as per the US proposal. “The DOJ officials said if Kagyezi refused to co-operate, Uganda could cancel his passport and ask the country where he resides to deport him, ” a source said.
