TWO companies Amfri and Uganda Farmers Agribusiness have made a breakthrough to American, Canadian and Dubai markets in organic food exports.
Amfri trades as African Organic, and is involved in growing and exporting solar dried organic fruits and vegetables. Uganda Agribusiness is a trading arm of Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFF).
Henry Mutebi Kityo, also MP for Mawokota south constituency said that he has received an order for six containers of fresh organic fruits to Dubai. Amin Shivji, the managing director of Amfri said, Seattle in north western US, needs 50 tonnes of solar dried pineapples, papaya, ginger and bananas per month.
“The orders are huge but we may not be in a position to meet the growing demand, unless the government plays a role to regulate high freight costs,” Kityo said during the send off of the orders last week. Amin and Kityo were seeing off their first consignments to USA and Dubai. Ends
