THE Cecafa recess took its toll on KCC football club as they managed a narrow victory over up-country side Buikwe last evening when the Nile Special league resumed at Nakivubo Stadium.

Danish tactician Jan Fray was a relieved man when Abubaker Tabula returned to the squad to command the side and scored the all important goal in the 72 minute.

The skillful midfielder, who has been serving a two match suspension for a redcard earned against champions SC Villa, intercepted a long cross by Bosco Nyeko to score.

Five minutes later, dread-locked Pitchen Bajope would have increased the scoreline after heading in a Tabula cross but was ruled offside by referee Ali Kalyango.

“I am happy he is back and played well,” said Fray of Tabula. “He is a powerful utility player.”

KCC has 19 points out of ten games and lies in fourth position.

But the team looked rusty failing to utilise several other chances in front of goal.

KCC’s next assignment is away against Mbale Heroes next Saturday.

After missing the money bracket in the just concluded CECAFA Club Championship, Express is to be welcomed back in the local competition by Police FC.

Coach Leo Adra needs to sharpen his experienced players if he is to check and ride over the dynamic and youthful Police, who have put up an average performance in their past encounters.

Express’ striking partnership of Baby Matiyabo, Hassan Mubiru and Fred Okello will face stiff scrutiny from Police’s defence of Simeon Masaba, Ausi Kaya and skipper Lutalo Bbosa as both teams look for maximum points.

Winless Akol FC gets another chance to triumph when they host Mbale Heroes FC in Lira.

Mbale’s bench is in turmoil since assistant coach Ibrahim Maruti walked out in protest after failing to agree with his superior Noah Wanyama.

Heroes’ troubles will be increased in case they become the first victims of the new entrants.
