PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has said he will start preaching to politicians to convert to God, reports Ebenezer Bifubyeka.
“Church leaders should use their talents to eliminate hunger. Don’t shame God who created you. In fact, I want to start preaching to politicians to turn to God,” Museveni said in Runyankore.
He was laying the foundation stone for a sh502m theatre at the East Ankole Diocese Ruharo Mission Hospital in Mbarara on Friday.
He contributed sh10m of the total sh30m raised in cash and pledges.
He hailed the diocesan leadership for their contribution to the development of Mbarara District. The President also revealed that the Government would soon extend support to non-government hospitals to ensure quality and sustainable services.
“Government is wasting a lot of money fighting Kony’s LRA rebels and hunting criminals through Operation Wembley. This money is supposed to be given to church hospitals like this one. They are assisting the Government hospitals,” he lamented before a large crowd at Ruharo Cathedral.
Museveni said the vision of East Ankole Diocese in putting up the hospital with modern machines, was a good indicator that the church does not only cater for the spiritual but also for the physical needs of the people.
He said it isin line with the Christian teaching of catering for the spiritual and physical needs of the human body.
Bishop Elisha Kyamugambi said the partnership in development between the government and the church was a great service to the people of Uganda. Ends
