NATIONAL champion Charlie Lubega will for the third time open the way in the Kobil rally this weekend after no request for a change was received from Charles Muhangi.

NATIONAL champion Charlie Lubega will for the third time open the way in the Kobil rally this weekend after no request for a change was received from Charles Muhangi.
Highly seeded Lubega (Mitsubishi Evo4) and Moses Lumala (Toyota Celica ST185) had asked clerk of course James Kamusiime to flag off Muhangi first. Last year Muhangi complained that the duo slowed him down.
“Muhangi said he doesn’t mind starting behind them since regrouping is after only three sections,†said Kamusiime.
The draw conducted last night at Regency Hotel in Kampala put Lumala and Dipu Ruparelia (Mitsubishi Evolution 4) in the second and third positions respectively.
Former national champions Muhangi (1998) and Emma Katto (1996, 1997) will be fourth and fifth on road.
The second round of the National Rally Championship series starts tomorrow at Garuga immediately after scrutineering of cars at Kobil Bombo road.
On Saturday cars will be flagged off at Regency Hotel in Bakuli for the second leg that has five sections spread out in Masaka, Lyantonde and Mbarara.
The final leg on Sunday will cover four sections in Mbarara and Bushenyi.
The Mbarara Motor Club organised rally is sponsored by Kobil Uganda with Regency Group of Hotels, Uganda telecom and Pepsi as co-sponsors.
