A TOTAL of 400 houses in Walukuba Estate are ready for sale, writes Jonathan Angura.

The mayor, David Wakudumira has said the rest of the 1,500 houses in the estate were still being valued and would soon be up for grabs.

The estate that accommodates over 15,000 people belongs to Jinja Municipal Council, who recently resolved to sell the houses to individuals.

Speaking at All Saints Church, Walukuba recently, Wakudumira said the committee handling the sale included representatives of the sitting tenants.

He dismissed rumours that the council had certain people it targeted to take over the estate.

“I hear that some people are saying the council is to sell the houses to outsiders. I would like to assure you that priority to purchase these houses is given to sitting tenants and those spreading such rumours are enemies to you and me,” he said.

He said tenants willing to buy the houses would first pay a certain percentage and the rest of the money in installments over time yet to be decided.

He pledged to contribute sh50,000 monthly for the development of All Saints Church.

He commended the outgoing committee for working had to build the church.
