KATIKAMU North MP Lt. James Kinobe has said the sh4m bribe allegation against him is a conspiracy aimed at bringing him down politically, reports Milton Olupot.

Kinobe, who is also the Chairman of the parliamentary Movement Caucus, yesterday told the committee on rules, privileges and discipline that the Movement director of information, Ofwono Opondo, and Luweero district chief administrative officer Mpiira Bigairwe conspired to frame him.

The committee chairman, Ben Wacha (Oyam North), warned Kinobe against using such words as conspiracy, but Kinobe insisted that it was a conspiracy.

“Mpiira gave evidence here that he has only talked to Ofwono three times, but here the print-out from MTN shows that they continued communicating every day after the allegations had come out,” he said.

He was being cross-examined by Mpiira’s counsel A. K. Turyakira. The committee is investigating allegations that Kinobe, the chairman of the local government accounts committee, demanded a sh4m bribe from Mpiira to forestall a parliamentary probe into queries raised by the Auditor General.
