Ugandan magistrate heads African Judicial Network
Buganda Road Court magistrate Frank Nigel Othembi has been elected president of the Africa Judicial Network (AJN).

Buganda Road Court magistrate Frank Nigel Othembi has been elected president of the Africa Judicial Network (AJN).
AJN is an international partnership aimed at promoting effective judicial systems in its member countries.
The elections were held during its annual conference in the Mali capital, Bamako recently.
A New Vision journalist, Anne Mugisa, was also elected to AJN executive committee.
Youssouf Cisse and Rachel Banda from Mali and Malawi respectively were elected AJN vice- presidents.
Other members elected to the executive include USA Judge Terrell, Patricia Diop from Senegal, Joyce Manyasi from Kenya and Willy Rubeya from Burundi.
AJN membership comprises of lawyers and other people involved in judicial systems, including human rights activists and journalists.
AJN members said independence of the Judiciary, had become contentious in many countries.
