Celtel Uganda, the pioneer mobile phone company, this week launched its coverage in Kumi, Pallisa, Kapchorwa, Iganga, Bugiiri and Kamuli districts.
Speaking at the event, which was held in Kumi, Michael Werikhe, the state minister for works in charge of communication, expressed government’s appreciation of Celtel’s role in the development of the telecommunications sector.
“I have noted Celtel’s record in the area of international roaming and it demonstrates a commitment to linking Uganda to the rest of the world, said Werikhe.
Celtel managing director, Lars Anderssen, Celtel said the company’s main mission was to serve their customers with improved services.
“We have decided not to have service fee and ensured that our services are affordable and of high qualityâ€, he said.
“We’ve become more responsive and aggressive on the market. We take quick decisions on the things that the market asks for. That’s why we reduced our rates, that’s why we’ve slashed service fees and that’s why we are in a bid to expand throughout Uganda†said Richard Mugera, Celtel’s marketing and communications manager.
The provision of an affordable and high quality service at Celtel is also going hand in hand with various community-based projects for the needy.
Recently, Celtel committed sh140m to support 400 AIDS orphans through TASO.
In Kumi, they are sponsoring a student from the district.
“Your business, social and family life will be greatly enhanced by the expansion of Celtel’s network coverageâ€, he added.
Celtel plans to further inroads into the country.
Next on the expansion map is Lira, Gulu, Nebbi, Paraa, Kabale, Fort Portal, and Kisoro.
