NOBODY has so far died of famine in Karamoja, says a report to President Museveni.

NOBODY has so far died of famine in Karamoja, says a report to President Museveni. This contradicts reports from local leaders in the region who claim that almost 500 people have starved to death or died of famine-related causes.
MPs from the region, echoing claims by the Chairman, Moroto district council, Terence Achia, recently reported to Parliament that 79 people had died of famine. Subsequent reports pushed the death toll above 500.
A fact-finding team from the office of the Prime Minister and the World Food Programme went to Karamoja in late January and returned in February. The team carried out a food needs assessment.
The food situation report to the President seen by The New Vision says in part, “An advance report sent by the team disagrees with the report from the MPs in Karamoja.”
